YT Shield – Auto-Refresh for YouTube · Last updated: May 2026
TL;DR: YT Shield collects no data whatsoever. Nothing leaves your browser.
What data we collect
None. YT Shield does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data, browsing data, or usage data.
What the extension does locally
YT Shield operates entirely within your browser. It does the following, all locally:
Monitors the YouTube video player for errors, blank screens, and frozen playback
Automatically refreshes the page when a playback error is detected
Saves your on/off toggle preference using Chrome's storage.local API — stored locally in your browser only
Data we do NOT collect
No browsing history
No YouTube watch history or video data
No personal identifiers (name, email, IP address)
No analytics or telemetry
No crash reports sent to any server
Third-party services
YT Shield has no backend server, no analytics service, and no third-party integrations of any kind. The extension communicates with no external server.
Permissions explained
The permissions requested by YT Shield are the minimum required for its features to work:
tabs — to detect YouTube page navigation and reset the auto-refresh counter between videos
storage — to save your on/off toggle preference locally in your browser
Children's privacy
YT Shield does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
